Community Foundation of Broward Awards Grant to Voices for Children of Broward County Spotlighting its Work in Support of the Broward County Guardian Ad Litem Program

Broward County, FL (July 29, 2013) – Voices for Children of Broward County, the non-profit affiliate of the Guardian ad Litem program, is the proud recipient of a $3,000 grant made possible by the Community Foundation of Broward. “The Next Step” grant, funded by the Children’s Services Council of Broward County, will provide additional funding to assist Voices for Children of Broward County in working to achieve its mission: to raise funds to help ensure that each and every abused, abandoned and/or neglected child in the County is assigned a Guardian ad Litem.

“On behalf of the Board of Directors, we are so thankful to have received this grant from the Community Foundation of Broward,” states Amy Goldin, Board Chair of Voices for Children of Broward County. “With hundreds of children in Broward County in need of a Guardian ad Litem, this funding will help us to continue advancing our fundraising and awareness efforts to better ensure each child is granted a voice.”

A Guardian ad Litem is a trained volunteer who works one on one with abused, abandoned, and/or neglected children and advises the judge on the child’s progress through the system, makes recommendations for placements and permanency, and advocates for the child’s best interests. Although state and county funding for the Guardian ad Litem Program is provided, it is not enough money to recruit, train and professionally supervise a Guardian ad Litem for every child who enters the Broward County dependency system.
